Friends of Pencarrow

Friends of Pencarrow

Friends of Pencarrow is a charity formed by a dedicated group of people who care about this historic estate’s future and its connection to the community, past and present. The group raise money to enhance the house and grounds. Recent donations have included assisting in the rebuilding of the courtyard walls, the parkland fencing down the back drive and, in the valley, the planting of over a hundred trees including the extension to the monkey puzzle avenue. They also run social events and special interest days connected to Pencarrow.

The latest project and fundraising from the Friends of Pencarrow is the Fountain Appeal, to raise funds to restore our beautiful Victorian fountain and get it flowing again! The Book Shed was opened in 2020, where our visitors are now able to browse and buy some of the wonderful secondhand books that are for sale.

Individual friends have also enhanced the Pencarrow estate with their own areas of expertise through gardening, archiving, repair and maintenance.

The Friends of Pencarrow’s main fundraisers are Snowdrop weekend in February and Wild Garlic/Bluebell Sunday in May. The group also make delicious marmalade which we sell in the shop and at other seasonal events including our Christmas Artisan fair.

A Friends membership – particularly popular with families and dog walkers – includes one guided tour of the house and unlimited access to the gardens during the season (March to October – 10.00 – 5.00pm) the annual newsletter and it costs only £30 for a single and £50 for a double membership.

If you would like to become a Friend of Pencarrow or get involved with the group, please contact the membership secretary on 01637 889736 or e-mail pencarrowfriends@gmail.com or pick up a membership form from the shop.
